Gematri is a web application suite for administering surveys in schools and other educational environments. Gematri enables researchers to effectively realize the many benefits of web survey data collection while avoiding or ameliorating its known problems.

Gematri consists of two applications that share a common database schema. Gematri Respondent hosts researcher survey sites, authenticates potential respondents, and presents surveys to respondents. Its survey generator constructs surveys dynamically based on meta-data and configuration specifications, while its survey manager handles all aspects of presenting a survey to a respondent, including navigation, validation, conditional branching, saving, and updating. Gematri Respondent is capable of hosting multiple researcher sites, each with multiple surveys, and supports all common and many specialized survey item data types.

Gematri Administrator provides both centralized and distributed management of the conduct of surveys using role-based security. Coordinators oversee the conduct of surveys at specific educational institutions; administrators are responsible for designating coordinators and for broader oversight of survey usage. Gematri Administrator also includes survey report and data download capabilities tunable to different organizational levels from individual schools to districts and states.

By using Gematri educational researchers can lower the costs of conducting school surveys, improve data quality, conduct surveys online that require onsite coordination of respondents, facilitate stronger relationships between researchers and school staff and officials, and make the integration of related datasets ea
