University Center For Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research, and Service |
Abstract: |
The University Center For Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research, and Service (UCEDD) is one of 61 such centers in the United States that receive funding from the federal Administration on Developmental Disabilities. The UCEDD is located within the College of Education, and provides administrative support for the Center on Human Development (CHD), which consists of eight programmatic units, including Educational and Community Supports (ECS). The activities of these programmatic units fulfill the Center's mission: Improving the quality of life experienced by Oregonians with developmental disabilities and their families.
The UCEDD achieves its mission by engaging in four core functions: · Interdisciplinary pre-service preparation · Community service (training and technical assistance) · Research · Dissemination of information A current ECS project with the UCEDD involves a collaboration focused on improving and evaluating the effectiveness of the Oregon Intervention System (OIS), the statewide behavioral support and crisis intervention system. Use of OIS is mandated in the Oregon Administrative Rules when an individual receiving State DD-funded support has a behavior support plan that utilizes any physical intervention, including restraint, as a safety protocol, or when support providers reasonably anticipate the need to use any kind of physical intervention or restraint. Implementation of OIS occurs through multiple levels of training, utilizing a training-of-trainers approach to train certified OIS Instructors, who in turn conduct training in OIS procedures for community support agency staff, foster care providers, and other support providers who may require or request OIS training. |
